My Reading
Habits
I enjoy reading in
my free time because it gives me time to relax and enjoy time to myself. It
gives me an excuse to give myself some quiet time since I don’t get much of it
with my busy work and school schedule. Reading
lets me clear my mind and take my mind off of stress. I also like reading since
it allows me to picture the story in my own perspective, unlike when watching
movies. When I am reading a good book, I can picture the characters in my own
image that I perceive them to be depending on how they are described in the
book. I’m also able to create my own vision of the scenes in my head which
makes it more interesting to me and takes my mind to another place to where I can
actually feel like I’m one of the characters in the story.
I like to read
romance and mystery novels the most. My favorite author is Sarah Dessen, who
writes mostly teen romance books. I enjoy her novels because I can relate to
several of her stories and they always leave me wanting more after I try
setting the book down. My other favorite author is Nicholas Sparks when it
comes to reading romance books, and I like that I can watch the movie after
reading the book. As I read his novels, I am able to feel exactly how the
character is feeling and I’m able to see into the mind of the characters. In my
opinion, reading is much better compared to watching movies because you can see
what’s going on in the characters head, and you can know what they are actually
thinking.
My favorite place
to enjoy my leisure reading time is usually outside on my hammock during the
day, or in my bed if its night time. I prefer being outside when I read
normally because I can also enjoy the weather if it’s nice outside and maybe
even get a tan at the same time. If its night time or bad weather outdoors, I
will read in my bed where I can really focus and have peace and quiet. The only
free time of the day that I would have to read is during the evenings or before
I go to bed. It’s the best time for me to focus on what I’m reading since there
are fewer distractions.
Unfortunately, I
don’t get to read as often as I would like to. When school is in session, I
rarely get time to read for fun since I usually have to read books assigned by
professors which hogs up all my free reading time. During the summer is when I
get to read the most, since I have plenty of open time in my day when I’m not
out or working. When I’m balancing classes, homework, work, and a social life,
it’s hard to also fit in time to have any true relaxation time to just sit down
and read a good book. If I do start to read a book during the school semester,
I usually find myself realizing I never finish them since weeks will go by
where I haven’t picked up on the reading
due to lack of free time. This causes me to forget the details of what I had
already read and leads me to giving up on the novel and never going back to
reread it. I may not get to read for pleasure as often as I would like to, but
when I do it gives me a chance to free my mind and gain more knowledge.
